Rose Bowl 2016

Mid December I was at a preschool board meeting and my BFF, Stacy, says to me..."I really think we should consider going to the Rose Bowl...we can keep it cheap and drive!"
I immediately thought she was being ridiculous and brushed it off as a joke!

After the  meeting she pulled me aside and assured me she was not kidding and we should really think about it!

I mentioned it to Travis when I got home and he had a look of excitement in his eyes and I knew I was going!

He had his nose in his atlas the rest of the night (yes, he's one of the few people who still use an atlas!) figuring out a game plan of driving, how many miles it would be (1750 if anyone cares!) and even figured out gas expenses!!

We had a few conversations and I really tried to get out of it...
...not because I don't love Hawkeye Football but because it is a 24 hour drive, I'm pregnant, can't partake in adult beverages, I hate being a passenger in the vehicle (I'm a "point A to point B in the quickest possible way" kind of gal!), I already had the time off work to spend with my boys and going on this trip would take away from that....
....and so on and so on!
I went as far as to beg him to make it a guys trip!
{BFF Stacy wasn't having that!}

None of it worked...
....and on December 29th off we went to California!

We left this cold, white crap!!
The Horvaths were in Kearny, NE at Mark's parents (where they left their kids) so we had to pick them up!
Stacy had no problems sleeping in the vehicle and probably slept 18 out of the 24!
I was jealous because I didn't get much sleep at all!
Our route to California was Iowa to Nebraska to Colorado to Utah to Nevada and finally to California....straight through!
The drive was beautiful and Utah really surprised me with its scenery!
(I believe this was Arizona on the way home!)

Ugh, finally arrived at our destination...25 hours later!

NEW YEARS EVE!!

We slept in on NYE and slowly started our day!

We stayed with my mom's BFF from high school, Rose, and her place was perfect!
Her sister lives right down the road so she gave up her two bedroom condo for us and stayed with her sister three nights!  It was very much appreciated!!

Our first stop was Seal Beach!
It was a bit chilly but we made the most of its beauty!

Rose's daughter, Ellen, drove us all around and was Travis' personal history guide!

After the beach we met Rose and her other daughter, Katie for drinks and appetizers!

After drinks and apps we went to the USS Iowa (BB-61).
They were giving free tours to anyone that showed an Iowa ID.
As you can imagine it was crazy busy and the wait was 3 hours long and we didn't have time to tour the ship.  Travis was bummed but he'll survive!
They did shoot off the back of the ship so we were around to hear that!
LOUD!!
There were lots of things to do and we took part!
There was over 20,000 Iowans to tour the ship that day...a record high!!

After the ship we found a yummy seafood restaurant on the water!
It was delicious!!

Last picture of 2015!
I will admit we did not see midnight in California but we watched the ball drop Eastern time!!
{Cheers with a Sprite..wah wah!}

NEW YEARS DAY!!
GAME DAY!!

So excited for the game!!!

Beautiful backdrop for tailgating!

We were just standing at our vehicle tailgating and I saw my sisters nephews, Matt and Zach walk by!
Had to get a picture for Kellie!

We also planned to meet up with my SIL Amy's brother, Jerad and his friend Andrew!

Four or Five jets were writing a message in the sky so we were all getting a picture of it!
(My friend Jess took the pic and I was shocked at my baby bump!! 15 weeks!!)
Here's what we were taking a picture of....
Pic #1 "America Is Great..."
Pic #2 "Trump Is Disgusting!"
Pic #3: "Anybody But Trump!"
I'm not getting political here (that's NOT me!) but it was so neat to see these jets doing all this then to have this message as a result was hilarious!!

Okay, back to tailgating!!
We had a fun group from Williamsburg representing!!

Had to get this picture in front of the Rose Bowl!

Security was ridiculous...but made me feel safe!
This was the line just to get in our gate!
We left our tailgate (right outside stadium) at 12:20pm and we did not get to our seats until 1:50pm!

We had amazing seats!!

Our poor Hawkeyes struggled the whole game which was very sad to watch...
...but we made the most of it and cheered on our Hawks til the end!!

Travis was NOT happy about the game (luckily he kept it to himself...some Hawkeye fans did not!) so he wasn't exactly thrilled to be taking this picture!
Smile Travis!!

There's a smile from the hubs!!

I was obviously the DD on the way back from game and I had to deal with these doozies!!
I'm only kidding....kind of!
I decided In-&-Out Burgers would be best for everyone...
...and that most definitely included Mark...LMAO!!!

*****************************

JANUARY 2ND....THE DRIVE HOME:(

Our route home included California to Arizona to New Mexico to Colorado to Nebraska to Iowa!

Look how happy we are to start the trip!!!
There are no pictures during or after the trip because around hour 14 in the vehicle we realized we had another 14 hours to go!
We drove straight through and it was a haul!
I was fine and dandy the first 14 hours but I was a royal bitch the rest of the trip!
I.WAS.DONE.
I wanted to be home and out of that car!!
My ankles swelled up and I was just uncomfortable!

So...Stacy, Mark and Travis...I am sorry you had to see me at my worst;)

We left California at 7:45 am on Saturday and got home at 1pm on Sunday!

After getting the boys back home all was well in the world again!!

The boys had a great time and that was never a question in my mind!!
I love this picture my SIL Jeana sent to me!
Thank you to my parents, Travis' parents, Arec & Jeana and Austin and Melanie for watching our boys while we were gone!
It truly does take a village and we have the best one!!!

******************************
A lot of people have asked me "bet you're mad you wasted your time and money on that game, aren't you?!!"
"Do you regret going now?!"
"Will you ever go again?!"

Here's how I answer that....NO!!!
No, I am not mad we went!  We did NOT waste our time or money!  It's all what you make of it people!!!
No, we do NOT regret going!
And hell NO I will not be driving to California EVER again!!!  Flying?!  Yes, for sure!!  It was beautiful there and I for sure want to go back!! Just not in a vehicle!

Welcome to 2016 folks!
Make what you want of it!

Christmas 2015

We had a great Christmas this year!
I LOVE this time of year!!
I love being with family, eating all the yummy food and giving to others!

****************************************

On December 23rd we continued our annual tradition of going to my parents and staying overnight!

This year Travis decided he'd rather stay in his own bed at home (fun hater!) and Jake and Amy took their kids home because they are younger and they didn't want to mess with bedtime!
Totally understandable!
So really it was just my sister and her family and the boys and me at my parents!
Oh well...we enjoyed ourselves!!

EVE OF CHRISTMAS EVE

We all love playing cards in this family!
The boys got in countless games of UNO!
The adults played double deck bid euchre til the wee hours of the night but there's no pictures to prove it because I was preoccupied keeping everyone on track!
The Christmas spirit was flowing and they all kept forgetting what suit we were in and who had the bid!!
I finally made the executive decision (as the only sober one!) to call the game and send everyone to bed!
"What suit are we in?!" continued to be the running joke the next few days!

I can't even with this little guy, Leo!

Matching jammies from Grandma Van!

Delaney with Grandma and Grandpa
{Delaney had a rough night sleep that night so they took her to the doctor on Christmas Eve and she tested positive for strep!  If I'm going to deal with my kids getting sick I'd much rather deal with strep throat then the pukes!  So we didn't let her sickness keep anyone away!  And you would have never known she was sick!}

CHRISTMAS EVE

Presents, presents and more presents!
{Enter (fun) chaos here!}

Again with Leo!
I can't get enough of his cheeks!!

On Christmas Eve night we went to Holbrook for mass and to watch my Grandma Vera sing Oh Holy Night!

After mass we go to my grandma's for supper and cameras are always out!
Here's the little boy cousins ham'n it up!

****************************************
CHRISTMAS MORNING

He came, Santa really came!!!

This year he brought the family a Wii and a few games!!
And the best part....the damn Elf went back to the North Pole with Santa!!!
{Enter mama's happy dance here!!}

Pierce didn't get many toys this year but he was in love with his new gear!
I'll buy him all the gear he wants...as long as it's not a gun;)
(I know it's inevitable but I'm stalling...and I'm the mom so I can!!)

Cash was also happy on Christmas morning with his new puppets and "theater"!
We've already seen many, many shows!

And the aftermath....

I think Travis had more fun playing the Wii...
...the boys were begging for their time!!

CHRISTMAS DAY

After we are done at home we head to Travis' parents for an all day celebration!

Group selfie with Rayce and Brynnleigh!

Hot apple cider...."Jesus is the reason for the season!"

With all the presents Pierce got this was one of his favorites!
Aunt LynDee knows him well!
He hasn't taken it off since Christmas and I've already washed it two times in 3 days!
I think he also enjoyed matching his cousins Rayce and Carter!

****************************************

In the days following Christmas we've had a lot of fun on the Wii!
Cash loves the bowling game and actually bowled a 225 his 3rd time playing!
Pierce and Travis like the golf!
I'm sure we'll get into the other games soon enough!

****************************************

I hope you all enjoyed your time spent with family, friends and the ones you love!
We absolutely did and it's hard to believe we are going to have a six month old next Christmas...EEEK!!

Happy New Year Everyone!!!

Rachel Becker made this cake and it was absolutely perfect!!

He chose a friend birthday this year!

I'm used to 10 hour days with kids so this was an easy 2 hours!

Cash had a lot of fun and got some pretty cool presents:)

We had our family over on his actual birthday for supper, cake and ice cream!

He was pretty proud of his crown from school!

****************************************
This was our women's shopping trip in Des Moines!
You know, the one that involved drinking and a positive pregnancy test the next day?! ;)

My sister and I took our littles to Disney On Ice.
Cash loved it!!

 Our tree this year:)

Oh, and this elf...this damn elf!
That's all I'll say about that!!

Our Hawkeyes had an amazing season!!

They say don't drink and prime...
...I wish I had drinking to blame!
This was one days worth:)

We've been enjoying Christmas movies more this year!
This particular night we introduced The Christmas Story and they loved it!

Grandma Van and her matching outfit shenanigans!!

Christmas letters to Santa!!

And Santa's response!!
(You gotta love a small town and the local post office!)

Travis and I finished our shopping last weekend!
You know, all the stuff I couldn't get on Amazon;)
We finished shopping on Saturday and wrapped everything on Sunday!!

Cash's preschool had a holiday party this year and it was a blast!

First out of three visits with Santa!

****************************************

As part of the kids' Christmas gift from my parents they took all of us to Mt. Pleasant to The North Pole Express!
The kids thought it was the best thing ever!

Santa: "Have you been a good boy this year?"
Pierce: "Kinda!"
Oh my....

One big happy family!

****************************************
This year I decided to take time off work over the holidays!
I am looking forward to quality family time but I think I'm most looking forward to no diaper changing;)
(See my BIG NEWS post from yesterday!)
Also, Travis and I are driving out to California to support our beloved Hawkeyes!
Yes, I said driving...say a prayer for me!
We are going with our best friends (The Horvath's) so I'm hoping that makes the ride go quicker!!
GO HAWKS!!!

****************************************

MERRY CHRISTMAS from my family to yours!
Enjoy time with the ones you love!!!

BIG NEWS

I mentioned in a few posts earlier that a lot has changed in the Heitman household!

WE....ARE...EXPECTING...A...BABY...
...EEEEEEKKKKK!!!!!!

Let me go back a bit and explain some things...
...this is going to be a raw, honest post so bear with me, and please no judging!

When Cash was a year old we decided we would like 3 kids so we got busy and tried....
....for 3 years!
It just wasn't happening!

We talked to our doctor and she suggested further testing for Travis and myself.
After having a few discussions Travis and I decided we would not go further with the testing.
We had 2 healthy, happy boys!

We decided that this was it!
Our family...
...Dad, mom, Pierce & Cash!

I was content with this and sold everything...
...and the last time we saw my OB in June we walked out with vasectomy pamphlets!
{That appointment obviously never got made;)}

****************************************

Fast forward to November 8th, 2015...
I had just gotten home from a girls weekend in Des Moines...a girls trip that involved alcohol!
Travis and Pierce were farming and Cash and I were home!

I had been suffering from severe heartburn and just didn't feel right!
After looking at my full supply of tampons I realized I really didn't have a period in October...woops!

Cash and I headed out to the local Dollar General for a pregnancy test!
I rushed home, my hands were shaking, I was sweating.. but I took the test.

POSITIVE right away!

HOLY SHIT BALLS......
Panic set in...
Fear set in...
Doubt set in...
I had to sit down on the floor...
Cash was banging on the door...

So back to Dollar General we went for a second test because the first one COULDN'T be right...

POSITIVE again...

I was a hot mess...
...we were done having kids
...this wasn't the plan
...holy crap I'm going to be responsible for another human being
...there goes my social life... (selfish, yes...but these were my immediate thoughts!)

I called Travis right away...
...he was over the moon excited and quickly calmed me down!
Thank God!!

I called the doctor the next day and calculated my due date...
...to my surprise I was already 8 weeks!
They wanted to see us two days later!

We told our family and friends and the boys!
Everyone was shocked...everyone!

The boys were happy and shared the news with the whole town!!

It took me a while to wrap my head around all this!
I'm 13 weeks today and I'm still scared to death...but happy as ever, all at the same time!

My biggest fear is our boys are 26 months apart and they are close, they have a bond!
This baby will be almost 8 years younger then Pierce and 5.5 years younger then Cash!
I'm worried about the bond he/she will have with Pierce and Cash.
I'm also worried about me being older this time around...5 years older!!

Do I feel terrible when I have doubts?  YES!!
Do I fear a miscarriage from all my negative thoughts?  EVERY.DAY!
Do I want this baby? WITH EVERY FIBER IN MY BODY!
Has it taken me 6 weeks to come to terms with this? YES, but that's okay!

I have a lot of faith and I know this blessing has way more meaning then I'll ever know!
What's that saying, "You make a plan and God laughs!"
Yep, pretty much!!

I know God will be with us every step of the way...
...and because of that I am fearless!

Bring on baby number 3 in June 2016!

Now, everyone please say a little prayer that all-day sickness goes away real soon!
Say a prayer that I stop gagging at the stupidest things...my toothbrush for instance!
Also, please say a prayer that all daycare kids save their poopy diapers for their parents so I can stop gagging over those;)
And, for the love of God, say a prayer that my beloved Diet Pepsi stops making me sick so I can start drinking it again!!
